RUTHERGLEN UNDER 14 BOYS

Rutherglen 3 (Aaron Clark 1, Blade Hornsey 1, Jake Stones 1) lost to Norths 8

This week we got to take on Norths on Albury Hockey Centre 1, the atmosphere was electric with the crowd very much involved in the outcome of the game. Norths started strongly and scored quickly, catching us off guard. Jake Stones netted a goal for us in the first half, and lifted the spirits of the team. Corey Hill ran hard all game and was awarded the Parker Pie award for his effort. Blade Hornsey work hard all game and his effort resulted in a goal. Mitchell Carmody and Izaac Cameron fought hard and at times played beyond their age to show courage in their fight for the ball. Aaron Clarke moved to the forward line to net one, much to the crowds delight. Rutherglen went down to Norths 8 - 3, in an at times an exciting game. Well done boys.

RUTHERGLEN UNDER 16 BOYS

Rutherglen 1 (David Robinette) drew with Scots 1

The under 16 boys faced a real challenge against last year’s premiers, Scots on Friday night. They started brightly with the first score a result of a blistering David Robinette drive. The game ebbed and flowed with each team having periods of domination, until Scots levelled the scores just before half time. The second half was a torrid physical battle and the Rutherglen boys held their resolve, despite everything Scots threw at them. George Wood was solid in goal and supported Parker Pies Award winner Adam Shale who led the defence. Dale Lumby and Sam Quick provided plenty of skill and stamina in the midfield. A 1-1 draw was a fitting result for a very even contest.

RUTHERGLEN UNDER 12 GIRLS

Rutherglen 1 (Kotone Kamiyama 1) drew with Corowa 1
Due to other events and illness our little ones could only field 7 players for this game. However, due to the sportsmanship of Corowa they lent us their goalie for the entire game (Maddy Creamer) who put in a sterling performance against her own side, stopping many shots on goal. Despite the lack of numbers, our girls played extremely well led by Captain for the day Laura Ronnfeldt in defence, Amy Hollister through the centre and our goal scorer Kotone Kamiyama on the wing. The girls all ran hard for the entire game, and it was a spirited and often skilled effort that saw them draw with our local opponents. Well done.

RUTHERGLEN UNDER 14 GIRLS

Rutherglen 0 lost to Wodonga 14

The under 14 girls played against a strong Wodonga team on Saturday at Wodonga. They were unable to convert any of their strong play into goals going down 14 to nil. Together as a team of 9 players they ran hard all game. Rebecca McCluskey defended strongly for her first try in goals, kicking and blocking well. Great running by Chevelle Dunn, Kate Robinette and Ashleigh Spinks.

RUTHERGLEN UNDER 14 BOYS

Rutherglen 0 lost to Scots 6

We took on Scots this week at home Blade Hornsey and Shaun Moore ran hard all game, Michael Pleming (Parker Pie winner) skills were evident again this week and even netted a goal for us. Aaron Clarke was strong in defence, and Mikey Craft at times flew through the air to save goals. Jake Stones played well in the forward line. We put a a good effort only to go down 6 - 0. We take on Norths next week.

RUTHERGLEN UNDER 16 BOYS

Rutherglen 1 (Henry Hall) lost to Corowa 3

The Under 16 boys faced local rivals, Corowa on Friday night. The first half was a real arm wrestle with a late Corowa goal separating the sides at half time. The Rutherglen boys came out firing after half time and a fine goal from Henry Hall had soon equalised the score. Corowa’s experience started to show as they regained the lead and with 10 minutes to go Ash Menhennet equalised only to have the score disallowed. Corowa then scored again with two minutes to go and despite relentless attack from the Redbacks, the score remained 1-3.

The boys put in a manful performance without the guidance of their regular coach, and can take some real experience out of the game. Better players were Adam Shale, George Wood, Ash Menhennet, Dale Lumby and Sam Quick.

RUTHERGLEN UNDER 12 GIRLS

Rutherglen 1 (Kotone Kamiyama) lost to Wodonga 6
This was a game played at home, however it was an "away" game for us, which we only managed to have 8 players available.  It was a very warm morning, but the girls that played managed to run and run and run, until their little legs couldn't carry them any further.  There were many periods of good passing and skill displayed by the littlest redbacks, with one such being rewarded with a goal by Winger Kotone.  Emma (EJ) Ronnfeldt tried her hand at Goal Keeper and did a fantastic job, keeping the score down to 6 for the opposition.  Other great performances were put in by Sara Lumby at Centre Half and Grace Ronnfeldt in Defence.  When we manage to field a full side these little ones perform to match any team, keep up the good work girls.

RUTHERGLEN UNDER 14 GIRLS

Rutherglen 0 lost to NASC 8

The girls ran hard all game with only 10 players on the field. Great tackling by Chevelle Dunn, Georgie James and Sarah Hernan. Kate Robinette and Meg Ronnfeldt kept trying to get the ball into goals all game. Lisa Robinette came forward into different positions and stayed strong. Shaniah McKinna and Bec McCluskey played strong stopping and passing the ball. Thanks Tyneaka Roach for stepping up and making an impact on the wing.

UNITED DIVISION 1 MEN

United 4 (David Foster 2, Matt Monte 1, Matt Davis 1) defeated Norths 1

Saturday 15th May was Norths home day which meant a Saturday match for Division One men and also the unavailability of our Spitfire players - Tim Jones and Sam McIntosh.

United were on the attack immediately and would not let the North forwards cross the half line for the first 5 minutes of the game. 10 minutes in Mark B went for a run down the field crossed to David F in the circle - goal. 5 minutes later a second goal to David F thanks to another good pass from Mark B. Henry on the wing was finding good position and was instrumental in many forward passages.

The first short of the match was awarded to Norths with 17 minutes left on the clock it was well saved and then cleared by Riley. 3 minutes later another short to Norths and another great save by Darren, this time cleared by Dave M. Russell, Dave M and Matt M were working well in the back line stopping any shots on goal. With another good passage of attacking play Matt M found the back of the net with a back stick shot that hit the post and deflected in. Goal number 4 came 3 minutes later when the goalie was out James passed to Matt D who had a clear push into the back of the net. In the dying minutes of the first half Mark B hit a top ball across the top of the circle which unfortunately was not deflected in. With just over a minute on the clock United was awarded its only short for the half.

Scoreline at half time United 4 Norths 0.

Norths came out strong after the break and had pegged one back after only 2 minutes of play. The second half was not a good half for United, passes were not finding their targets and at times the ball was being held onto for too long. Alex was still running hard and United was unlucky not to have had another goal when Alex passed to Mark B and the shot went just wide. Norths were still being awarded shorts, United's 2 and only shorts for the second half came with 4 minutes left on the clock.

Next week will be a very tough match when United take on ladder leaders Falcons.

UNITED DIVISION 2 MEN

United 1 (Justin Burns) lost to Wodonga 5

UNITED DIVISION 3 MEN

United 5 (Robbie Hill 2, Troy McSweeney 1, Brodie Molnar 1, David Robinette 1) defeated Scots 1

The men began quickly with two short corners in quick succession but unable to convert. United was dominant early on play with very little play in Scots half. Robbie Hill scored a goal in the dust! Just missed a third goal in the next short and again missed in a fourth short.

Vision difficulties saw some heated play with an umpire giving a general warning to both captains. With some audible comments directed at United players, Troy McSweeney gave the best response in a goal from a short corner.

Opposition elbows in the `D’ saw flick awarded to United. David Robinette goaled beautifully. The rest of the half saw the ball play up and down the field a lot.

A short not converted early in the second half saw the ball taken down quickly by Scots, a swift turn over resulted in a field goal scored by Robbie. As legs got tired there were many long hits from both sides. Brodie Molnar scored a goal late in the second half and there were short corners not converted. The dust made the game interesting and tested the ability of both umpires, who did a great job.

UNITED DIVISION 1 LADIES

United 1 (Sarah MacQueen 1) lost to Norths 9

UNITED DIVISION 2 LADIES

United 5 (Steph Clancey 2, Beckie Spinks 2, Sam Bartlett 1) defeated Wangaratta 0

The game was on the gravel at Rutherglen. United were into the attack at the start with a penalty corner but were unable to convert. Not long later Sam Bartlett passed to Steph Clancey who finished off play with a goal. Five minutes later Lorraine Plunkett passed to Steph and again she found the back of the net. Another corner to United but unable to score despite much movement around the D. Half time score 2-0

The second half had more play up and down the field. Twenty minutes in Becky Spinks scored a field goal. Goals then continued from Sam Bartlett and another from Becky Spinks. Jess Bramwell had a quiet time in goals with very little getting past Lucinda Jones, Kaylene Lumby and Amber Barnes. Amber Barnes won the prize for the most skin off for her diving attacks on the ground.

UNITED DIVISION 3 LADIES

United 2 (Georgie Terrill 2) defeated Falcons 0
